WhiteSource Offers New Integration with TeamCity by JetBrains

November 1, 2012 Amy Parker

New TeamCity Integration continuously monitors and tracks addition of open source components, analyzes licenses’ risks and requirements, and automates the review and approval workflow.

WhiteSource, the leading provider of SaaS Open Source Lifecycle Management solutions, announced today the release of a new integration with TeamCity by JetBrains. The new integration enables software developers to automatically detect the addition of new open source components, identify their license, and analyze license risks and requirements. WhiteSource also provides a workflow for the review and approval of the inclusion of the new open source component based on the company explicit policy and industry best practices. The TeamCity WhiteSource plugin can also automatically stop builds that violate the company open source policy, and provide developers with the respective feedback.

Management of open source license is an issue of increasing concern to all software development organizations. With the new plugin, TeamCity users can rely on WhiteSource Open Source Lifecycle Management to address this concern without substantial expense, and without expanding unnecessary developer and time resources, allowing them to increase productivity, while mitigating the legal, business, and technical risks. This new integration adds to the recently released plugins for Apache Maven, and Red Hat OpenShift.

WhiteSource provides a comprehensive, yet simple to use, and very affordable solution for companies that need to manage their open source assets and ensure license compliance and control in order to avoid pitfalls such as lawsuits, penalties and lost business. Developers and managers use White Source’s free cloud-based solution to track, audit and report on open source components throughout the software development lifecycle.

TeamCity is JetBrains’ user-friendly Continuous Integration (CI) server for professional developers and build engineers. With TeamCity developers can build, check and run automated tests on the server even before committing to changes, thereby keeping the code base clean at all times. The new WhiteSource plugin for TeamCity enables users to also easily and automatically manage their open source components and license risks and requirements using WhiteSource service – without exposing their source code.

“We are really excited to see this new contribution in TeamCity’s plug-in ecosystem. Giving customers the power to enforce their open source library policies will be useful to our customers,” remarks Pavel Sher, Development Manager for TeamCity.

“JetBrains’ TeamCity approach allows development teams to develop more cohesive software more quickly. The new WhiteSource plugin for TeamCity optimizes the development process even more by enabling TeamCity users to automatically and continuously detect, identify, manage, and audit their open source components, licenses, risks, and requirements” said WhiteSource CEO Rami Sass.

WhiteSource Software is a cloud-based software-as-a-service solution for managing open source licenses.
