HYPE Innovation Uses WhiteSource to Provide Its Customers Up-to-Date Open Source Reports "With WhiteSource we can provide customers with up-to- date open source reports, and all it takes is a click of a button" Albrecht Scheidig, Head of Product Development, HYPE Innovation The Customer Report Challenge Like most software companies, HYPE Innovation relies on open source components to speed up software development, shorten time to market and reduce development costs. HYPE Innovation started out with manual management of the open source components they use. Information about these components was listed in a document and updated when necessary, usually when a customer required an open source report as part of the sales process. As the company grew, the number of open source components in its software increased. At the same time, the number of customers requesting open source reports grew too. Preparing these reports became a tedious and time consuming task. "Eventually, the number of Java libraries grew to a point where managing them manually was simply impossible," says Albrecht Scheidig, Head of Product Development at HYPE Innovation. HYPE Innovation is a global leader in full-lifecycle innovation management software. HYPE's powerful platform allows organizations to engage thousands of employees in idea generation and collaborative problem solving. HYPE Innovation's client list includes global companies such as P&G, Bombardier, Nokia, Daimler, Airbus, Saudi Aramco, Petronas, Bosch, Deutsche Telekom, and Siemens. HYPE Innovation's R&D group develops primarily in Java and JavaScript. The group is using the Jenkins Continuous Integration environment and the Maven build tool. Selling enterprise software solutions to large organizations requires careful management of open source components. First, large organizations require their software suppliers to adhere to compliance and regulatory requirements. Second, for a large corporation, the cost of replacing a mission-critical solution with another is huge.
